Cider Research
In the early days of our business, we received two Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) Farmer Rancher Grants. For any farmers/ranchers out there, this is a great way to get a little funding to explore a topic of interest. In our case, we did some cider experiments.
In the first project we created 39x1 gallon batches of ciders, each made with a single apple variety. We tested the acidity, tannins, and brix of each cider, and we took tasting notes along with having a tasting panel try them all. You can check out those results using the link below:
In the second project, we made small commercial batches using uncommon ingredients such as cornelian cherries, seaberries, bee balm, and many more. We put all of these ciders on tap and solicited customer feedback in addition to having an expert panel taste them all. We recorded several notes on working with each of the crops and gave our qualitative evaluation of their potential. You can read the full results using the link below:
