Come to the very first “Tour de Farm” and take a bike ride to one of the farms we work with! Start at Brix, ride to the farm, take a tour, have a snack, and ride back. What could be more fun than that? If all goes well, we will plan “Tour de Farm” rides throughout the summer and into fall. They will vary in difficulty from short, family-friendly rides, to longer, challenging rides, all with destinations of local farms that we work with. The rides will be casual with each rider going at their own pace.
Stage 1: Squashington Farm - Sunday, June 9th
We source a lot of veggies from Squashington Farm, and they’re only 4 miles out of town! There are some hills, but it is otherwise a short, family friendly ride. Mount Horeb residents will probably recognize Pat and Sarah from the Mount Horeb Farmers Market, and Brix Cider regulars may have had Sarah as a bartender. This is your chance to see their farm first hand, get a tour, and have a snack with some farm fresh veggies!
9:45 am - Meet at Brix and get rider briefing
10:00 am - Depart Brix
10:30 am - Farm tours and snacks
11:30 am - Depart Squashington
12:00 pm - Approximate return to Brix
We will not charge anything for this first ride, but we do suggest a donation of $10 to help cover our costs and to share 50/50 with the farm to compensate them for their time, effort, and snack provisions.
Donations will be payable on the morning of the ride. If you’re interested, please register below so we know how many riders to expect.
Let’s see how the first one goes, but we have several possible farms in mind…
Date TBD: Taproot Farm and Fruit
27.9 miles total; 928 feet elevation gain
This out-and-back route will follow the gentle grades of the Military Ridge State Trail westward to our good friends at Taproot Farm and Fruit. We source delicious veggies and apples from Taproot. We’ll meet the farmers, take a tour of the farm, and enjoy a farm-fresh snack before heading back to Brix. Riders need a State Trail Pass in order to ride the Military Ridge Trail.
